The geranium plant is indigenous to South Africa and was introduced into Europe in the 17th century. There are over 250 natural species of Pelargonium which does lead to confusion regarding the different varieties. Our Bourbon variety produced from the cultivar Rose and commonly known as the Pelargonium graveolens. This is a perennial, shrubby plant which has aromatic leaves which are steam distilled to produce the oil.
The essential oil is greenish in color with a pronounced leafy/rosy scent which is widely used as a fragrant component in cosmetic products.
